September 10, 2017- Reading Log #1// Any Small Goodness by Tony Johnston// Topic Choice 1- Characters
These are all the main characters and why they are all important : Author is kind, brave, respectful of others and himself, caring, humorous, in Mega Mango, and a member of the Green Needle Gang. Papi becomes quiet when angry, religious, loves to play Dominoes, has never missed a day of work until the morning after the shooting, not gang material, and humble. Mami stress cooks, scared of possums, name is also Rosa, and is caretaker to the cat. Luis rebellious, sarcastic, musically gifted, in Mega Mango, and a member of the Green Needle Gang. Rosa loves pink, loves dad and cat, loves secrets, and lost innocence. Abuelita very religious, nurturing, and dislikes electronics. Jaime, Ms. Pringle changed his name to James and he is a member of the Green Needle Gang. Alicia, Ms. Pringle also changed her name to Alice, her brother is Jose, family is a mess, sensitive, and a member of the Green Needle Gang. Raul loves weird words, Ms. Pringle changed his name to Ralph, likes Abue's cooking, and is a member of the Green Needle Gang. Lloyd is humorous and a member of the Green Needle Gang. Ms. Pringle teacher for 5th or 6th grade and Americanizes Latino names for easier pronunciation. Leo retired man with white hair, heroic, brave, kind, welcoming, strong, allergic to cats, neat, and scared of heights. Coach also is late to practice, owns a watch that doesn't show the right time, has an old car, and coaches basketball. Coach Tree is nice, supportive, the assistant coach, and the mentor of Jose. Jose is a thief, doesn't trust anyone, brother of Alicia. Leona Scott/Mama Dulce is a piano prodigy, taught children how to play piano, loved by community, loves sweets, and died of a blood disease. Ms. Cloud librarian, wealthy, caring, and donates money to the school. Mega Mango and Luis, Turo, are Luis' friends, loud band, and plays a concert at the high school dance turned shooting. Officer Paster a police officer who came the night of the shooting, kind, empathetic, and thoughtful. Maybelline the getaway car for the Green Needle Gang. Pigeon Woman is a poor, old brown potato, mother of several children, and "victim" of the Green Needle Gang. Green Needle Gang a good gang, helpful, generous, kind when no one is watching. Valentin is very old. Car, jitters, 40 miles per hour, Studbaker, restored, guacamole green. This character stays the same throughout the story as i read the book. According to the book, author's father says, "En su vida, hay cosas malas y buenas. There are good things and bad things in life. If you don't find enough of the good, you must create it." However, his dad giving him these quotes of life, might help him be the same know matter knowing that there's always going to be 2 different kinds of people in life. Also, Author the main character doesn't change throughtout the book because he once said, "One Cause, One People, One Taco." and "Good things don't have to be big". So, this throughout the book shows that he no matter what will stay the same throughout anything in this story.
September 25, 2017- Reading Log #2// It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini// Topic Choice 1-Characters
The main charcters in this story are Craig Gilner, Aaron Pardis, Nia, Sarah Gilner, and Dr. Eden Minerva. Craig Gilner is a 15-year-old boy who lives in Brooklyn, NY with his parents and younger sister, Sarah. For several months Craig has been suffering from depression that affects his ability to eat normally and causes thoughts to race around his head, a process he calls Cycling. His parents have been supportive, but things have not improved despite medication and therapy. So in a desperate moment, Craig decides to kill himself. Aaron Pardis is the only friend Craig has left once he goes to his high school, that changes when he goes to the mental ward and Aaron finds out his girlfriend is taking anti-depressants. He thinks Craig is making it all up. Nia is aaron's girlfriend, and the girl Craig is first in love with. She is very pretty, and also got accepted into pre-professialist. She is also depressed like Craig, and takes similar medication to him. But she doesn't experience depression as bad as Craig does. Sarah Gilner is craig's younger sister, who is depicted as bright, confident, and full of potential. She is embarrassed to come to the ward but accompanies her parents, she repeatedly tells him that she is glad he didn't commit suicide and how much she would've missed him. Dr. Eden Minerva is craig's therapist, she help's him before he leaves the hospital by convincing him to tell his teacher's where he has been during the five day's he missed school. She also convinces him to transfer high school's. Craig Gilner the main character of the story is dymanic because in the beginning of the story he is suicidal and menataly ill. Moving towards the middle of the story, he started looking for help and he turned himself into a mental hospital. "I have tried to kill myself multiple times but my family and friends have always caught me and tried to stop me", said Craig, this means that Craig was a very suicidal person in this story. Craig also said," Now that i'm healthy both ways phsicaly and mentaly, I have decided to help others with mental issues and also help people in need of mental therapy". Craig became a psychologist and decided to help others the rest of his life.

The main characters in this story are Misha Pilsudski is “a little child of indeterminate age and background” is a small, short orphan boy who survives by using his size and quickness to steal food and escape danger. Uri is a “scrappy, slightly older boy” who acts as a ringleader for Misha and the other smugglers. Janina Milgrom is a small young girl who gets frustrated, upset, and pushy frequently throughout the novel. Doctor Korczak, The man who took care of orphans who also had a mustache. Vivian is a “normal, sensible person” who enjoys Misha’s mad sounding talk of his past. Katherine is a friendly “young woman . . . [with] dark brown hair” who is Misha’s daughter. Wendy is four years old and is Misha’s granddaughter. Mr. Milgrom is Janina’s father. He is a pharmacist who makes medicine, but he stops working a formal job after restrictions are put on Jews. Uncle Shepsel is Janina’s Uncle who decides that he will convert to Lutheranism so he will no longer be treated as a Jew. Mrs. Milgrom is Janina’s mother who is sick and dies on her mattress in the Ghetto. Misha is not a static or dynamic character he's a protagonist but Janina is a dynamic character. She’s a dynamic because we meet her as just a girl interested in Misha, then a good friend of his, and then they get so close, they call each other brother and sister.
